The Penny Fund
In 1985 the Penny Fund was started when Bulent Rauf, (Consultant to the Beshara School 1975–87) asked two students to open an account in their own names at the Abbey National Building Society, (now Santander) with the fifty-pence piece he provided. The account is still in operation today.
The Fund has continued to grow with pennies and small change paid into the account by past and present students of the school. It was set up for the single purpose of helping, as a gift, towards the expenses of new and needy students attending the Beshara School.
Each year a modest sum was given, and since it started, has raised approximately four thousand five hundred pounds. The last sum sent was seven hundred pounds in October 2012.
