My Heart is Too Big for My Pacemaker
Poetry by Shane Wakil Jagger
Shane was born in Hull in 1960. As a young man he worked there in the fish markets until he found his way to Chisholme House, where he has contributed generously to the lives of the people there, as a cook, breadmaker and as a friend to all. In his spare time he has drawn and painted, written and illustrated stories and, more recently, has begun writing poetry. Almost everything he produced he has given away as a gift, along with any gifts he has received. In turn, these twenty-six poems have been gathered together to be shared as a gift among even more readers.
Onion
Today I’m like an onion
Sad with separation
Grief makes me cry
Chop and cook me gently
Add a little saffron
for joining together and laughter
Serve me to those whom I love
