All visitor accommodation is housed on the ground and first floor in the converted farm steading, which is a short walk from the main house.
Accommodation is shared, in double, triple or dormitory style rooms. A limited number of single rooms are sometimes available on request.
Bed linen and towels are provided. Wash facilities, showers and toilets are grouped together on the ground floor. There is one bathroom suitable for disabled users. There are no bedrooms with ensuite facilities.
Disabled facilities
The student and visitor accommodation in the farm steading has ground floor rooms with wheelchair access, and one bathroom with toilet and shower suitable for disabled users. Please discuss your requirements by contacting the secretary, prior to arrival.
Costs
Contributions for visitors at Chisholme have been for many years by donation and it has long been established by the Institute that access to the School and to Chisholme should not be restricted by financial considerations. The suggested rates listed below are an indication of what it costs to cover a visitor’s stay, but guests are asked to donate genuinely what they can afford.
The School is financed entirely by gifts and donations, and supported through work freely given. A scholarship and bursary fund has been established to help students on low incomes. If you wish and are able to, please make a donation to this fund as part of the contribution to your visit.
Suggested rates
£35 - Per adult per day (full board and lodging)
Children under 5 free
£10 - children 5 to 10 years
£20 - children 10 to 16 yearsLunch or dinner only – suggested donation £7.50
Suggested family rates and rates for longer stays: please contact the secretary at the address above.
Volunteers wishing to come and experience working at Chisholme see Volunteering.
What to bring
The weather varies a great deal, so please bring warm clothing and waterproofs suitable (including Wellington boots if you have any). Also: two pairs of house shoes or slippers (one pair for the steading accommodation, one for the main house). A dressing gown is useful, as none of the bedrooms or dormitories has en-suite facilities.
Meals
Everyone eats together in the large dining room in the main house. The cooking, serving and appreciation of food is an essential part of the education here. The School is not vegetarian but meat is prepared with the deepest respect for its benefit and provenance. Vegetarian dishes comprise the majority of the food served and are always available as an option.
If you have specialised dietary requirements, please discuss these with the secretary before your arrival.
Internet and Phone
There is virtually no mobile signal within the Chisholme grounds. However there is a payphone set at the lowest possible tariff, available for students and visitors. Wi-fi internet is available in the main house, where there is also a computer for public use.
Children
Chisholme does not have a dedicated nursery facility.
If you are a parent, and would like to bring your child for a short visit or course, please contact the secretary for advice.
