Discovering Unity Seven Day Retreat
13 August 2016 19:00 to 20 August 2016 14:00
The Chisholme Institute, Roberton, Hawick, Scottish Borders TD9 7PH
Learn more about what 'discovering unity' means during this week-long retreat course.
The course begins on Saturday evening with supper followed by an introductory talk and conversation. Sunday is a day of preparation, largely spent in silent retreat. The rest of the week follows a regular programme of study, conversation, work, meditation and devotional practice.
This week complements the week scheduled for May. Study in the May retreat course explores in greater depth a number of themes that are introduced during the weekend and seven-week Discovering courses. This week-long course, by contrast, focuses on a particular theme – service. What is true service? Why and how can one serve a reality which is ‘rich beyond need’?
The week-long retreat allows for these questions to be explored both intensively and extensively. Intensively: you will be focused on the theme for a whole week. Extensively: you will learn about service in the study and conversation sessions; outside the study room you then develop your understanding as you work in the kitchen or garden, as you enjoy a meal as well as during meditation and devotional practice. By the end of the week the aim is that you will have discovered a truer knowledge of yourself and a better relationship with the world about you.
This retreat course is especially suitable for people who have experience of either the introductory weekend or seven-week Discovering Unitycourses - as well as those who attend the May retreat week. However, anyone who wants to learn more about themselves and the world can benefit from this week. It is also a good opportunity to get a better understanding of what the longer six-month course involves.
