The Future for Food and Farming

29 April 2016 to 02 May 2016
Chisholme House, Roberton, Hawick, Scottish Borders TD9 7PH

In this three-day seminar, biologist and writer Colin Tudge will deliver a programme of stimulating talks, inviting challenging discussion and debate on how we can all in different ways, contribute to the sustainable future of food and farming right across the globe, to ensure the long term survival of the human race.

Advocating no less than an ‘Agrarian Renaissance’, Colin who heads up the UK wide, ‘Campaign for Real Farming’, will discusswhat he famously terms ‘Enlightened Agriculture’ -  a complete re-think of the economics, the politics, the science, the scale and the technology behind current farming practices and most importantly who controls them.

He will pose moral and practical questions, focusing on what farmers really think they should be doing and why.

He will also examine what he considers to be the vital role of small, low-input mixed farms, and he will look at why farming should draw on the wisdom of the great spiritual traditions to secure an indefinite future for the human race.

During this bank-holiday weekend, Colin will invite participants to discuss and investigate how some of his ideas can be put into practice. A combination of lectures, field trips, film showings and debates will assure a varied and interesting programme.

The weekend is a collaborative venture between the Chisholme Institute and the College of Real Farming and Food Culture.
Chisholme,   with  its   tradition  of cooking and fine meals, its organic garden and surrounding farmland, offers an ideal setting for this exploration.
