Development Office Update Feb 2014

February 2014 :  Working together

Alongside the course and programme developments (see website calendar for up-to-date information), there has been a focus on building and strengthening the links between the different groups and bodies, nationally and internationally.  This has included clarification of the legal and operational framework of the Beshara Development Office and its relationship with the Chisholme Institute, and the incorporation of representation from the widespread ‘Beshara’ groups and bodies, into decision-making processes.  The ‘membership’ of those working in development is emerging as one which can be light, fluid and changing according to activities and requirements. Quarterly meetings with all concerned are planned for this year, beginning in April. The minutes from these meetings are available online.

Funding:

An appeal last year raised £9,327 in single donations and an increase in regular donations of £1,100 per year – raising the total in covenanted donations to £3,300 per year. A wonderful response.  With this support it has been possible to work in a positive, planned and timely manner.

For the programme to continue forward from April 2014 – Mar 2015 a new fund-raising target of £10,000 has been set.    It is hoped that the base of support will continue to increase in breadth together with the income that comes through other sources.   The ongoing aims are; to continue to invite covenanted donations as essential underpinning for the core costs and to look  for, recognise, appreciate, value and make best use of all support in whatever form it appears. (More detailed budget information is available from the finance team on request.)

All donations, regular or one-offs, large or small, are very much welcome and appreciated. You can find out more about funding here...

Communication:

At recent meetings the need to find ways to communicate effectively, with those who love and support Beshara, was discussed. Although attempts have been made with letters emails and reports over the last few years it is clear that nothing can replace face-to-face conversation for listening and talking about matters that we love.

A first conversation took place in Hawick in early February.  Aliya gave a short presentation and told some news from around the world, followed by discussion and finding out what the next steps are.  There is more news of what has happened and what is planned and still many questions about the best way for the office to work.  Further meetings in different locations may follow.

Thank you all who have offered their support
