Seven Day Foundation Course

16 November 2013 19:00 to 23 November 2013 14:00
Chisholme House, Scottish Borders, TD9 7PH
Beshara School

"The essential is not to falter from one’s own essence which is The Essence."
Bulent Rauf from The Essential

This course offers an intensive and immersive introduction to a genuine search for self-knowledge. Students will be introduced to key concepts such as the principle of the unity of existence, the place of humankind, service, identity and love. The course will follow a daily programme of studymeditationwork, and devotional practice, to establish a balanced and progressive path to self-discovery.

It is an excellent course for anyone looking to establish a fresh perspective in their life, or simply wanting to find out more about the Beshara School.

What happens on this Course?

Each day begins with a guided meditation before breakfast, then a morning of group study and conversation. Texts studied vary but include extracts from Rumi and Ibn ‘Arabi, and papers written specially for the School, all relating to the unity of existence, and the implications of such unity for us.

Meditation and then lunch is followed by a short work period, perhaps in the garden or woods (weather permitting) or kitchen, and then another session of group study or conversation. This may focus on an aspect of the interior work, such as the cultivation of awareness, the roles of doubt and trust, and the meaning of sentiment and passion. After a third meditation, in the evening, some complementary activities may take place including films, walks and contemplation.

What can I expect from the course?

It is impossible to underestimate the impact that these short courses can have on a person who comes with an open heart and enquiring mind. In many cases peoples’ understanding of who they really are reaches greater depths, or is transformed, simply through following the course as it is presented.
