Free Mindfulness Taster Day

Sep 21, 2013 10:15
Chisholme House, Scottish Borders, TD9 7PH
Beshara School

Have you heard of mindfulness and wondered what it is or how it could be useful to you?

Come and find out about some of the core principles and practices of mindfulness at a free taster day offered by the Beshara School at Chisholme House, in the heart of the Scottish Borders.

Mindfulness can be defined as paying attention to our moment by moment experience – in other words, to be fully present and aware in the present moment – without judgment or preference. It helps you to accept and understand who you are, so your can live your life fully, rather than enduring or escaping it.

Based both on Buddhist teachings and recent research in Neuroscience, modern mindfulness is a secular movement, which uses language free of religious or spiritual reference. It is bringing wisdom, insight and practices to many fields including healthcare and stress reduction, benefitting hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. Mindfulness practice has application for virtually everyone.

Beshara School: Mindfulness courses at the Beshara School broadly follow the programmes as developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and others. They are an invaluable resource for anyone who wishes to cultivate insight and compassion towards themselves and others, at home or in the workplace. For those whose focus is self discovery, these courses are fully integrated with the School’s wider programme of courses in self-knowledge in the light of our essential unity with the whole of life.

Chisholme House: The Beshara School has a residential centre at Chisholme House on a 200 acre estate in the heart of the Scottish Borders, close to Hawick. Its beautiful spacious grounds, comfortable facilities and attention to detail provide the perfect environment for contemplative practice.

A free mindfulness taster day will be held on Saturday 21st of September
from 10.15 to 4.30.
Lunch is provided by donation

The courses are open to all. The taster day will introduce core principles and practices, all of which are explored in more depth on the two month (3 weekend modules in October and November) introductory course. These mindfulness weekends can be attended on a residential or non residential basis.

Both the taster day and the full course, will be lead by Peter Young, principal of the Beshara School.
