A seminar and discussion with Avi Abadi
A study of that facet of the human make-up which, according to Ibn 'Arabi, lends thought the capacity not only to alter self-perception, but also to evoke that presence which overwhelms our sense of self altogether and to which he refers as Union.
In examining the ambivalence that characterizes the human makeup, expressed in such questions as the relationship of consciousness to matter and of reality to perception, this seminar will explore, in terms of Ibn ‘Arabi’s approach to the subject, the primary role that ambivalent makeup plays in the formation of our sense of self on the one hand, and the realization that reality is a single being on the other.
The seminar does not assume prior knowledge of Ibn ‘Arabi’s teachings, and it employs film clips and images to communicate some of the more abstract principles that are central to them.
Avi Abadi has been a student of the work of Ibn ‘Arabi for many years and has directed courses at the Beshara School at Chisholme House, Scotland.
