Two Year On-line Course

Sep 7, 2016 00:00

Start date: 7 September 2016

The two-year course combines:

– three residential retreats
– home study and practice
– online training
– regular skype-contact with your course facilitators
– integration into your own daily life

The residential retreats:

Three 10-day retreats are part of the course. The first one will be held at the Chisholme Institute in Scotland, UK; the second one in Scotland or in Indonesia, and the final retreat in Turkey.

The Course

The perspective of unity is at the heart of the world’s religious and spiritual traditions. Scientists too are increasingly appreciating that everything is interconnected. The course will give you the ‘tools’ to discover for yourself your own relationship with reality. It will help you in a safe and fruitful way. You will gain a firm foundation upon which to build and so to fully enjoy the rest of your life.

The first year establishes a real basis for the deeper studies and experiences of the second year. In year one you will study texts from diverse contemporary and traditional sources. You wil be introduced to mindful meditation and contemplative practice. There will also be regular course assignments.

The second year focuses on the writings of Ibn ‘Arabi, whose influential work the Fusus al-Hikam is a rich and and universal source of wisdom. It is an inspiration and ever trustworthy companion if you wish to integrate your spiritual and daily life, and be of service in the world.

Structure

The programme combines a series of retreat periods of 10 days with home study modules. Three retreats are held, one at the beginning, middle and end of the course. These retreats allow you ‘space' away from normal distractions. They offer time to explore and discuss the study material together with your fellow students. The retreats give you an in-depth introduction to meditation and spiritual practice. There are also projects to be done together during the retreat periods.

There will be an Indonesian/Australian ‘branch’ and a European ‘branch’ of this two-year course. Students start and finish together at the first and final residential retreat.

There are six home modules each year, between four and six-weeks long. Each week you will be given a series of short readings. In the light of these readings you will then be asked to contemplate some questions within the context of your own life. You will also be asked to engage in mindfulness practice. At the end of each module you will complete an essay on a topic related to that module.

There is an online forum where you can discuss these questions and the essay topics with your fellow students. You also will have a regular telephone or Skype interview with one of the course facilitators.

The Next Course

The next course will start 7 September 2016. The first residential module will be in Scotland at Chisholme House, the middle one will be held in Indonesia for the Indonesian and Australian participants and in Scotland for the European participants. The final residential module for all students is planned in Turkey.

Fee: £250 deposit (non-refundable) and then £1100 in advance each year (two times). Payment in installments is also possible. These costs include three residential retreats with meals etc and the online study material , internet forum and regular contact with your supervisors.  Extra costs: your travel expenses and additional cost in Turkey (some traveling and meals).
