A Talk Forum presented by The Beshara Trust and The Edinburgh International Centre for Spirituality and Peace (EICSP)

Image: At the centre of the labyrinth at Chartres

Registration: 6.30-7pm
Talk Forum: 7-9pm

Chair:
Dr Jim Griffin, St Cuthbert's Episcopalian Church, Hawick

Speakers:
Jane Clark, Senior Research Fellow of the Muhyiddin 'Ibn 'Arabi Society, Oxford
Edie Irwin, Psychotherapist and co-founder of the Tara Trust, Edinburgh
Anthony Kramers, l'Arche, Scotland

The forum speakers will consider some of the relationships between spirituality and psychotherapy; community-building; peace-making; social justice; and the environment. There will be the opportunity for all present to share their questions, thoughts and reflections in an open discussion.

Arguably, until we achieve an effective and sustainable integration of our spiritual and social lives, and of aspects of our practice and modes of active engagement in the world, then we will struggle to achieve either a well-integrated and mature spirituality or genuinely effective, impactful and sustainable social action.

There is an opportunity to develop a more socially and environmentally engaged spirituality aligned to insights from science, psychotherapy, the creative arts, advances in democracy and contemporary social values, and with respect for individual expression and community empowerment.

As individuals, in relation, as communities, as organisations, in governance, or as part of interdependent ecosystems we are being called to bear witness to the challenges and opportunities that we face, with mindfulness, compassion, discernment and wisdom; and to respond to these challenges with ever greater awareness, empathy, concern and solidarity.

It is vital that we have available to us the wisdoms, tools and resources, and practices and processes that support us individually, in relation, and in community to nurture the values, self-awareness, outlook and capacities that will allow us to respond effectively, impactfully and sustainably to such challenges and opportunities.
