Intensive Retreat Fortnight

Mar 7, 2015 19:00
Chisholme House, Roberton, Hawick, Scottish Borders TD9 7PH

This is an intense retreat suitable for people with experience reading Ibn 'Arabi and with ongoing personal spiritual practice. It is open both to partipants who have done this form of retreat in the past and those for whom it would be the first time.

Week 1: Intensive week of study of Ibn ‘Arabi’s Tarjuman al-Ashwaq and the Lawa’ih of Jami, together with daily practice and group conversation.

Week 2: Participants are in seclusion (in retreat in their own room) for a week of intensive practice as prescribed by Ibn 'Arabi. This is known as Wazifa practice and consists of the recitation in Arabic of what are called "divine names". These are all names of the positive qualities of Being itself and in their recitation they are invoked both as a beneficence for the practitioner and a service to Being, God, Reality, Life, the Universe, or however it is best described. As such this retreat is for establishing a taste for the unconditional (the possibility of unconditional service) in all that we think and do.

Applications: There are limited spaces on the retreat, please apply early. Download an application form here and send it back to Chisholme or email to secretary@beshara.org
Please wait to hear if your application has been successful before booking any transport, we aim to respond to applications within five week-days.

Accommodation and timetable: The course is a residential retreat, starting on Saturday evening (7pm) and running until after lunch on Sunday two weeks later. The first day will be a fast day. You will be in a single room for the duration of the retreat.

Location: The location is Chisholme House, set on a beautiful estate in the moors of the Scottish Borders, an hour from Edinburgh, Newcastle and Carlisle. The site has no mobile phone reception and limited internet access.

Cost:  £700 including accommodation and all meals

Meals: The Beshara School Kitchen is set up to provide food in keeping with the spiritual and material aims of its education, including menus specifically designed for intensive retreat situations. Special diets can only be catered for where there is a medical reason.

Note on course fees: There are no standard concessions offered on most courses, because the fees are already kept as low as possible. We try to ensure the courses are accessible to those on low incomes, however if you would find the cost prohibitive, please write to secretary@beshara.org to enquire about reduced course fees or bursary possibilities.
