'Journeying in God'

Jun 21, 2014 14:00
The October Gallery, 24 Old Gloucester St, Bloomsbury, London
Beshara Trust

With Michael Cohen and David Hornsby

This seminar offers the opportunity of further exploration into themes from Ibn 'Arabi's Kernel of the Kernel. Our approach is contemplative and practical, with conversation. Attendance at the previous seminar is not necessary.

In this seminar we shall be looking at the 'three journeys'.

From the Kernel: 'the man of gnosis should know his place of beginning and his place of return; where he came from and where he is going. . . And this knowledge is tied to three journeys. … Naturally it is understood that these journeys have to do with the spiritual development of the person. There is no beginning nor end to this journey, nor does it have number, but these three journeys we have chosen include them all. Unless a man has travelled through these three journeys he cannot understand his self and cannot find in himself the necessary feeling of knowledge toward his Creator, neither can he ripen, nor can he lead others.'

Michael studied Mathematics at London and Warwick Universities and did research at Newcastle. For many years he has taught A-Level Mathematics and Statistics at a London tutorial college. He has an abiding interest in the connections between science and spirituality. He is a Trustee of the Beshara Trust.

David has been studying Ibn 'Arabi since the Swyre Farm days of Beshara. He is a Fellow of the Muhyiddin Ibn 'Arabi Society, and was Chair of the Society's first three Symposia held in the USA at UC Berkeley. He has been described as 'a businessman with the heart of an artist' and currently lives and works in London.

Time: 2–5 pm.

Admission free. Refreshments Provided. Donations welcome. Note: this time we are in the smaller  room (the Club Room).

If you would like to attend, and/or for further information, please email: london@beshara.org or telephone Michael Cohen on 020 8300 7928.
