Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans
John Lennon

Have you heard of mindfulness and wondered what it is? Could it be something that is useful to you?

Mindfulness is described as simply being present in the moment – without judgment or preference. This practice, and the skill it develops, helps us understand who we are and to interact authentically and effectively with our thoughts and feelings and so live life more fully. Simple and compassionate, mindfulness is an ancient practice. Its modern, popular form is secular and is suitable for anyone. It is bringing wisdom and insight to many fields including healthcare and stress reduction, benefitting thousands of people worldwide.

The Free Taster Day is open to all, and will introduce you to some of the core principles and practices of mindfulness. Lunch is provided by donation.

Facilitation: Sara Hirtenstein and Robin Thomson.

Time: 9.30 am – 4.30 pm

Lunch is provided by donation. Please let the secretary know if you have any dietary requirements.

To Book:  phone 01450 880215 or email secretary@beshara.org

For those who wish to explore further, a  Mindfulness Course of three weekend modules is starting in June. Read more.

Location: Chisholme House, a beautiful, secluded estate on the edge of open moorland, deep in the hills of the Scottish Borders. Its spacious grounds, comfortable facilities and attention to detail provide the perfect environment for contemplative practice. It is roughly an hour’s drive from Edinburgh, Newcastle and Carlisle, with a regular bus service from Edinburgh and Carlisle to Hawick, the nearest town. How to get here...

Mindfulness on Sunday afternoons: Free, informal sessions of mindfulness practice open to all happen at Chisholme every Sunday from 2.30 to 4pm. Whether a beginner or experienced, you are most welcome to join in. Alternatively, come for a wander around the lovely estate, which is open for walks at all times. The bluebells and rhododendrons are flowering in late spring, and if you are lucky you might see one of the rare red squirrels, who (we hope) have now taken up permanent residence at Chisholme.
Afternoon tea (with home-made cake or biscuits) is served between 4.00 and 4.30pm. There is no charge, but please leave a donation if you stay for tea.
